Your appointment guide
You're booked in! Here's everything you need to know before bringing your preloved pieces to Handpicked.
A little preparation goes a long way
Our intake appointments are incredibly popular and we often have a full week of sellers booked back to back.
Taking a few minutes to prepare your pieces properly helps us keep appointments running smoothly and gives your items the best possible chance of making it onto our rails.
What to bring
Two bags of clothing
Please bring up to two bags of freshly washed, neatly folded clothing.
Bringing shoes or handbags too? An additional bag for these is absolutely fine, as we know they take up room.
Keep it simple
Reusable shopping bags work best. Please don't bring bin bags, suitcases, garment bags or items on hangers.
Shoes & handbags
Footwear should be cleaned, including the soles. Handbags should be clean both inside and out.
What we're looking for
Great knitwear, current jeans and trousers, relaxed everyday pieces, casual jackets, trainers and carefully selected bags.
We're looking for current styles, quality fabrics and pieces our customers will love wearing.
Freshly washed really does mean freshly washed
Every item must be freshly washed before your appointment. The only exception is items that are new with tags.
Even if something has only been worn once, has been sitting unworn in your wardrobe or looks perfectly clean, please still give it a wash before bringing it in.
Clothing can pick up odours from storage, perfumes and everyday wear, often without us noticing them ourselves.
Why does this matter?
As part of our preparation process, we carry out a hygiene steam on the clothing we accept. This helps us identify and release lingering odours that might not have been noticeable during your appointment.
Lingering odours are one of the biggest reasons items don't make it through our preparation process.
We don't have laundry facilities, so we can't wash or treat items that need further cleaning.
Unfortunately, this means extra work for our team and another trip back to the shop for you to collect anything we can't sell.
A fresh wash before your appointment really does make all the difference.
A little update on dresses
Dresses are one of our slowest-selling categories, so we're being particularly selective this season.
We're not accepting formal, office, event, party or occasionwear dresses.
We'll only consider current, casual, everyday styles in great fabrics, such as corduroy, denim, cotton, wool and cashmere knits.
How we choose what to accept
We're quite selective about the pieces we take, and that's an important part of what makes Handpicked work.
It's not just about the brand or whether something is in good condition. We also consider style, fabric, season, demand and what we can realistically sell it for.
Every piece we accept has costs attached to preparing, photographing, pricing, displaying and selling it.
We need to be confident there's enough value in an item to make that worthwhile, while offering customers a fair price and ensuring our sellers receive a worthwhile return.
Sometimes we'll pass on a perfectly good item simply because it isn't quite the right fit for us.
Please don't take it personally. We'd much rather be selective at the appointment than accept something we don't feel confident we can sell.
What happens on the day?
Your appointment takes around 10–15 minutes.
Arrive on time
Please arrive at the beginning of your allocated appointment.
Appointments take place on the second floor. Let a team member know you've arrived and they'll direct you upstairs.
We'll take a look
We'll check your account details, then look through your pieces.
You're welcome to wait or have a browse around the shop while we do this.
We take care of the rest
Accepted pieces are added to your account and barcoded before being set aside for preparation and pricing.
Our automated system emails you a list of accepted items the following day.
Need a hand with the stairs?
If you have difficulty with stairs or need help carrying your bags, please let us know beforehand. We'll arrange for a team member to come down and assist you.
You can email us at hello@handpickedpreloved.com .
What about selling prices?
We don't confirm or advise on individual selling prices during appointments.
If you have a particular price in mind, you're welcome to mention it and we'll make a note, although we can't guarantee that price.
Our team prepares and prices accepted items after intake week, ready for their time on the shop floor and online.
And then?
Your accepted pieces go through our preparation process before heading onto the shop floor and online.
This usually takes around 7–10 days.
If you can no longer attend your appointment, please cancel using your booking confirmation so we can offer the space to someone else.
